If you want to attract people to your product, business, or logo, you need a proper sign. When creating a sign, it’s important to consider things like bright colors, high contrast, and dynamic designs. Two of the most common display types for signs are backlit and frontlit, also known as flex banner printing. There are endless display options for both types of banner materials, so choosing the right one for your particular application can be a difficult task to undertake.
Here at iTek, we’re a North Carolina printing company that specializes in graphic displays, both backlit and frontlit. Our printing professionals are happy to help customers decide what type of display banner is right for them.
An increasing number of businesses are turning to backlit displays and banners to display their logos. Customers will find that there are a variety of different types of backlit displays on the market, but what they have in common is that they use a glossy finish on one side and a matte finish on the other. The finished products appears as if it were lit from behind, creating an excellent range of contrast. A diffused light source is placed inside the display, which makes colors and words pop out at the viewer.
The two main types of backlit displays are:
Lightbox Displays: Lightboxes feature a squared off frame built from lightweight aluminum extrusions. The LED light strips provide a vibrant backlit graphic and can be printed on front and back. Lightbox displays come in a wide variety of sizes, from narrow to wide, and they weigh around 100 pounds.
Backlit Tension Fabric Displays: These backlit displays are thinner than lightbox displays and feature wrinkle-free polyester stretch fabric surrounding the frame. The lights hang from the top bar of the frame, providing a consistent light across the entire frame.
The most popular applications for backlit displays are bus stops, airports, and fast food restaurants.
Frontlit displays are lit from the front of the display, as opposed to from behind. Also known as flex banner printing, frontlit display printing digitally prints images and words on flexible pieces of material. Some of the most popular applications for frontlit displays are outdoors, such as in stadiums and on the sides of buildings. The durable materials that frontlit displays are made from are great at withstanding rain, wind, and snow over long periods of time, which is not true of backlit display banners. Other advantages of frontlit displays include their low cost, their ability to be very large in size, their versatility, and stretchy quality.
